History Of The Bahai Faith Religion Essay The Bahai Faith is an independent monotheistic religion. The Bahai Faith is an independent religion in the sense that it has its own scriptures, own laws, own holy days as well as its own calendar. This faith is known to be one of the fastest growing religion in the world and is spread to at least 250 independent nations in the world. The Bahai Faith represents approximately 2112 ethnic and tribal groups and is composed of as many as over six million people who have declared themselves as followers of the Bahai Faith. This faith is distinct in terms of the diversity of the believers of the faith. The Bahai Faith is a global religion as the believers come from different cultural, ethnic, professional and social class background. The second figure, Bahaullah (Glory of God) was known to be the founder of the Bahai Faith. Bahaullah was born as Mirza Husayn- Ali Nuri in Tehran, Persia who was the son of a prominent Iranian noblemen. He was one of Babs first disciples as well as the most renowned one. In his 20s, he renounced a life filled with wealth, privilege and high social standing in order to join the Babis and fight for humanitarian rights. When the Babis were being persecuted after the death of the Bab, Bahaullah also suffered and was thrown into the Siyah-Chal which is a black pit. It was during his imprisonment here where he received revelations through a maiden from God of him being a Messenger of God and him being the prophet of which the Bab had predicted. While most of the Babis were being killed, he was spared and released from prison but he was consequently exiled from Iran by the government. Bahaullah then made his way to Baghdad and began the quest to revive the Babi community there. Due to this , he was again exiled to Constantinople but before his departure, he revealed to his followers that he was the manifestation of God. This incident marked the birth of the Bahai Faith. After his stay in Constantinople, he was again asked to depart for Adrianople, Turkey. Here, he openly revealed his claim of being the messenger of God and began proclaiming his station openly to the world at a larger scale. It was here also when Bahaullah sent a series of letters to the leading monarchs of his time to inform them about his faith. The monarchs included Pope Pius IX and Queen Victoria. Bahaullah was subsequently sent to Akka which is the modern day Acre, Israel. His final years were spent here but before his death, he assigned and declared his son, Abdul-Baha as the Centre of the Covenant, successor and interpreter of Bahaullahs writings. The third figure, Abdul-Baha known as the Servant of God was the oldest son of Bahaullah and the successor of the leader of the Bahai community. His appointment was stated in the will of Bahaullah. Abdul-Baha was born as Abbas Effendi in Tehran. His birth was special as that day marked the start of the mission of the Bab. From a very young age, he experienced the sufferings of exile and imprisonment alongside his father. Under his leadership, the Bahai Faith expanded beyond the Middle East and found its way to Europe as well as North America.

Bugsy Malone and a short comparison Essay

In this scene when Peter comes back and surprises them, it almost as if they expect every thing they have said to have not happened, which is typical of children, they are relieved to see Peter and are happy. Further on in the scene John tries to regain his pride by pretending he knows about the way the ‘wop’ got out ect. At the end of the scene John and Peter join forces as I were to go to the top and find out what id happening, this part was played quite well, it was difficult because the lines all sound the same and remembering them was not easy, the rest of the group stayed in character really well. The last few scenes are very short and consist of John and Peter scaring the rest of the group buy pretending they have been caught, the rest of the group played this part very well, and acted as children would in this kind of situation, Me and Fraser were not on stage a lot but played it fairly well when we were. This entire play was very difficult to perform because of lines, accents and movement ECT. We tried to use space effectively and we used costume to add to the effect. I think that over all we did quite well performing this piece. Bugsy Malone and a short comparison As I do not know much about Bugsy Malone, I will only write a brief part on it, the basic out line of this story is that children who are put into adult situations, in the reverse to Blue Remembered Hills, are gangsters who fight against each other throughout the play, Bugsy is the leader f one gang. The gangs compete with things to try and get better than the other gang, instead of using guns, they use paint guns and water pistols. I think in comparison to Blue Remembered Hills this shows the small amount that children and adults know about each other’s roles in life. The two are very similar in the way that the ‘children’ in Blue Remembered Hills are put in a very childlike situation, and the ‘adults’ in Bugsy Malone are put in a very adult situation, I both play the characters have very different fears and emotions to one another and these are expressed well throughout both plays.

The Battle to Save the Ozone Layer - CFC Hazards

Ozone depletion is a crucial environmental problem on Earth. The growing concern over CFC production and the hole in the ozone layer is causing alarm among scientists and citizens. A battle has ensued to protect Earths ozone layer. In the war to save the ozone layer, and you may be at risk. The enemy is far, far away. 93 million miles away to be exact. It is the sun. Each day the Sun is a vicious warrior constantly bombarding and attacking our earth with harmful Ultra Violet radiation (UV). Earth has a shield to protect against this constant bombardment of harmful UV radiation. It is the ozone layer. The Ozone Layer is Earths Protector Ozone is a gas that is constantly formed and reformed in our atmosphere. With the chemical formula O3, it is our defense against the Sun. Without the ozone layer, our Earth would become a barren wasteland on which little to no life could exist. UV radiation causes a host of problems for plants, animals, and humans including dangerous melanoma cancers. Ozone is supposed to break up in the atmosphere. The reactions taking place high in our atmosphere are a part of a complex cycle. Here, another video clip shows a close-up view of ozone molecules absorbing solar radiation. Notice the incoming radiation breaks apart ozone molecules to form O2. The ozone layer exists in a layer of the atmosphere known as the stratosphere. The stratosphere is directly above the layer that we live in known as the troposphere. The stratosphere is approximately 10-50 kilometers above the Earths surface. The diagram below shows a high concentration of ozone particles at about 35-40 km in altitude. But the ozone layer has a hole in it!†¦or does it? Although commonly nicknamed a hole, the ozone layer is a gas and cannot technically have a hole in it. Try punching the air in front of you. Does it leave a â€Å"hole†? No. But ozone CAN be severely depleted in our atmosphere. The air around the Antarctic is severely depleted of atmospheric ozone. This is said to be the Antarctic Ozone Hole. How is the Ozone Hole Measured? The measurement of the ozone hole is made using something called a Dobson Unit. Technically speaking, â€Å"One Dobson Unit is the number of molecules of ozone that would be required to create a layer of pure ozone 0.01 millimeters thick at a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius and a pressure of 1 atmosphere†. Lets make some sense of that definition... Normally, the air has an ozone measurement of 300 Dobson Units. This is equivalent to a layer of ozone 3mm (.12 inches) thick over the entire earth. A good example is the height of two pennies stacked together. The ozone hole is more like the thickness of one dime or 220 Dobson Units! If the level of ozone drops below 220 Dobson Units, it is considered to be a part of the depleted area or â€Å"hole†. Causes for the Ozone Hole Once in the stratosphere, UV radiation break apart the CFC molecules into dangerous chlorine compounds which are known Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS). The chlorine literally slams into the ozone and breaks it apart. In the atmosphere a single chlorine atom can break apart ozone molecules again and again and again. The Montreal Protocol in 1987 was an international commitment to reduce and eliminate the use of CFCs. The treaty was later amended to ban CFC production after 1995. As part of Title VI of the Clean Air Act, all Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) were monitored and conditions were set forth for their use. Initially, the amendments were to phase out ODS production by the year 2000, but it was later decided to accelerate the phase out to 1995. Will we win the war?
